Last Day of Soccer Camp

Well, I'm happy to say that we SURVIVED soccer camp. All in all-Tate actually had a great time. They ended up switching the time for the camp. Originally, it was from 4-5:30 PM, and they changed it to 6-7:30 PM (which was slightly more bearable). I don't think that I could have handled it very well if they hadn't changed the time.

Lots of Sewing

Thanks to Aunt Cheryl for the quilt fabric... I've been sewing like crazy trying to get this rag quilt finished before she left. And I did, BARELY. There is NO WAY that I would have ever attempted sewing an entire quilt in a day and a half, if it weren't for the fact that I didn't know how to sew the edges of the quilt and my only chances at finishing it were with her help.
So even though it was CRAZY, it was fun and I'm glad that I did it. Here's a close of of the material.
And here's Tate ENJOYING his new Cheryl Blankie. He was so happy to get to sleep with it tonight. I thought it was cute when Tate told me that now I'm an AWESOME MOM-because I MADE him a blanket. Oh, and he told Bryan that they should give me a prize for doing it...
So what did Tate do while I sewed? He stuck needles through the skin of his fingers. I had to laugh when he showed me his "cool trick", because I can totally remember doing this when I was a kid. Only I stuck one through each finger of my hand. I think that WEIRDNESS must run in the family!

Day 211-Mint Tea for Grandma

Grandma Bloomfield LOVES mint tea! Since we have a pot of mint (that grows SUPER fast) in our front yard, Tate brings some to Grandma on a regular basis (We LOVE living next door to her).
Grandma has been in the hospital for the last several days. She had a shoulder surgery performed that should have just been an outpatient ordeal-but ended up being a very TRAMATIC experience that put her in ICU. She is FINALLY back home and doing much better:) It's good to have her back. Tate was happy to pick some mint and bring it to her tonight.

Day 210-New "Cheryl Blankie"

Isn't this fabric so cute? I LOVE how bright and colorful it is... The top fabric has pictures of BOYS and baptism, primary, getting married in the temple, reading the Book of Mormon, etc. Aunt Cheryl gave it to us yesterday for Tate's new "Cheryl Blankie". I guess I need to get sewing it! I'll show it when I'm done...

Day 209-Soccer Camp

Today was Day 1 of Soccer Camp for Tate. It started at 4 PM. It was 110 degrees outside and there wasn't any shade. So yea, it was HOT. Tate's coach had a very STRONG English accent, and when Tate first met him he turned to me and said, "I'm not in another Land." Apparently Tate could BARELY understand him... Then later while out on the field, Tate asked his couch to speak in ENGLISH.

Tate was quite a little character out on the field, and very entertaining to watch... He would either be sitting on his ball with his head in his hands, laying down on the field, or running around (not having a clue as to where he was going)-chasing the kids around saying "I tag you". My favorite was when he picked the soccer ball up with his HANDS and said proudly, "I got it first!"

Day 208-I Married a Tenor

Just wanted to brag a little about my man... He sang a SOLO in Sacrament Mtg yesterday and sounded just perfect. Good Job Bryan!

Day 207-Fun Stuff

Today was a BUSY day. We woke up early to go to our Stake's Pioneer Celebration (which included a pioneer parade for all the Primary kids, breakfast, pioneer games, and activities).
This afternoon I went to my ALMOST sister-in-law Julie's bridal shower. It was super fun with lots of cools games... Julie's so cute-I can't wait for the big WEDDING day (August 14)!!!
And... this evening we went to the mattress store and bought us the firmest mattress ever made-YEAH! We'll see how I sleep tonight:)

Day 206-Pioneer or Paper Boy?

Either way he's ADORABLE!
I found the shirt and shoes at Good Will, and paid a total of $2.50. The KNICKERS were a simple pattern from JoAnne's, the SUSPENDERS were just sort of made up by me, and I found the HAT pattern HERE. Awww, the joy of SEWING!

Day 205-Milky Mess

I told Tate that he COULDN'T have any juice... He was mad and went to get it himself. When he did, he accidentally knocked out an unopened gallon of milk and it splattered EVERYWHERE (up to 12 feet high on the walls, on cupboards, counters, but mostly underneath the dishwasher). I think that the SHOCK alone of watching this happen was consequence ENOUGH for him... You should have seen his face. He felt pretty bad!

Day 204-REAL Letters

Tate's NEWEST favorite thing to do is writing and sending handwritten letters and pictures to people. He also LOVES getting letters in return!

Days 202 & 203-Two VERY Opposite Days

Yesterday was ROUGH. You know, just one of those days when MIDOL was my very best friend. And when your TTC (and not having any luck at it)... Well let's just say-it can be a tad depressing. But that's okay because today totally made up for yesterday. We had a BABY SHOWER for my sister Christina (at my house), and it turned out super awesome (lots of chit chat and girly fun). Here's a picture of my Sister and 2 Sister-in-Laws who are due within a week or two of each other.
And now for some TOTALLY exciting news (that has completely made my day)... Drum Roll Please... We (Bryan, Tate, and I) are going on an eight day Mexican Riviera cruise (in October), and I don't think that I could be more excited about it. WOO HOO!!!

Day 201-Tate's "WAR HEAD" Reaction

Can you tell he LOVES them?

Day 200-Mary's Wedding

My cousin Mary got married yesterday. It was such an AMAZING wedding and reception. I'm so glad that I was able to go... The wedding was held at a BEAUTIFUL catholic church in Phoenix, and then there was a formal dinner and dancing at the Phoenician Resort later that evening. I am still dissapointed that I forgot to bring my camera to the wedding. I remembered to bring it to the reception, but it was really crowded so I wasn't able to get very many pictures. Oh well :)

Day 199-A Very Quick Temple Trip

As we were OUT & ABOUT today... We happened to drive passed the Mesa Temple and I envisioned a beautiful walk around the temple with Tate. Without thinking, I pulled into the temple parking lot. Apparently I had NO IDEA that it was 112 degrees outside (Sunglasses and AC have a way of doing that to me). The moment we stepped out of the car I realized that it was WAY TO HOT for something like this, but at the same time we were already there and I didn't want to leave. We immediately found the drinking fountain-walked around the reflection pool-sat down long enough to sing "I Love to See The Temple"-took a few pictures-got another drink and then left. All I can say is that I CAN'T WAIT for Fall Time!!!

Day 198-The New "Mona Vie" Energy Drink

This stuff is awesome!!! Thanks Faith & John.

Day 197-My "Cleaning the House" Trick

Although Tate can be a great helper around the house... Sometimes there are chores that only a Mom can do. And sometimes I want to do it alone so that it can get done quicker. To keep Tate busy and happy while I work-I invite a friend over for him so that I can clean. With Tate being an only child, sometimes I find myself BEGGING people to let their kids come over to play. Luckily we have great neighbors with a little boy Tate's same age... Today while I worked, they played cats, built a fort out of pillows, played the wii, and played pirates that had wands. And when Tate has a friend over, I never once hear a "Mom I'm bored, will you play with me?" Not that there's anything wrong with that... But there is definitely a time and a season for everything. And like it or not, cleaning is one of them! So I try to do what I can to make it happen.

Day 196-Take Time To Smell The Roses

As we RAN into Safeway today to grab some much NEEDED groceries... I knew that we had less than 10 minutes to complete our shopping. So I grabbed a cart and sped off towards the first isle-with Tate following a short pace behind me. "Hurry, Hurry, Hurry", was all that I had on my mind. I looked back to make sure that Tate was still with me, and sure enough he was gone. So I backtracked and found him by the fresh flowers. When I got there he said, "I wanted to smell ALL the roses". At that moment I realized that Tate was right... Life is just too short to ALWAYS be rushing. Just leave it to my sweet son to teach me the importance of stopping and taking the time to smell the roses.

Day 195-Yeast, Bacteria and Fungus

We went to the Mesa Public Library today. When we got there-Mr Tate (who always knows just what he wants) asked the librarian for a book about YEAST. He told her that he wants to learn ALL about it and where it comes from. You can imagine his disappointment when she told him that they don't have books for children about yeast. Although slightly bummed, Tate was NOT going to give up on finding a book that suited his interest. So he asked her to help him find some books about bacteria and fungus-which she did... As you can tell from the picture, Tate was absolutely THRILLED to be able to see pictures of some "Real Life" bacteria.

Day 194-Just Like Dad

Just about EVERY Sunday, Tate insists on matching Bryan. Here's how it works... Bryan showers and gets dressed first and then Tate copies him (picking out the same shirt, pants, tie, etc.)

Day 193-Two Hundred & Twenty Pictures!

Bryan took Tate to work with him yesterday (a pool that he's building in Chandler)... To entertain Tate while he worked, Bryan let Tate use his camera. It must have been VERY entertaining because we got 220 pictures (of only two different scenes) on Bryan's camera. The only differences in the pictures are the people going back and forth.

Day 192-Ice Cream Maker Ball

The kids (Tate, Lily, Emma and Peter) had fun using Bryan's birthday present today. He got an ice cream maker ball that you roll/kick/etc. and it makes ice cream. Who ever thought of this idea was a genious! We brought it to the park across the street and the kids took turns rolling it down the hill. It's amazing how entertaining it was for them. The ice cream was totally yummy too!

Day 191-Ninety Degrees Indoors!

Leaks are NO fun. Yesterday (while the workers were here trying to fix it) the ceiling actually caved in on them (leaving a giant hole in our ceiling-approx. 4ft x 5ft). They had to turn the AC off for several hours and the house got up to 90 degrees. Needless to say, we had a very HOT day!

Day 190-Who Likes SODA Anyways?

I don't buy soda, and Tate has only had it a handful of times... So I wasn't surprised at all, when I had him taste a sip of Root Beer today, his response was "YUCK it's too hot!" You should have seen his face when he first drank it. (It reminded me of a 1 year old drinking soda for his first time). After swallowing the soda, he went and got himself a big glass of water. MUCH BETTER! I guess that Tate must take after me when it comes to soda. I don't care for it either.

Day 189-Almost Like Siblings...

"Stop eating my crayons! Stop pushing my paper! Stop sucking on Hissy"-Tate kept telling baby Autumn over and over and over again last night (while we were babysitting her). Finally out of desperation, Tate turned to me and said, "Why isn't she listening to me?"
For me-hearing Tate telling Autumn what not to do just plain cracked me up, and then the fact that he couldn't understand why she wouldn't do EVERYTHING he said... Too Funny! It gave me an idea of how it would be if he had a sibling. Although I'm sure that if I had to put up with this all day long-I may not find quite as much humor in it!

Day 188-Extended Birthday Celebrations

We got to celebrate Bryan's birthday again (with his family this time) tonight. Here's Bryan (and mostly Tate) blowing out the candles. It was a fun evening...

Day 187-Grandma Bloomfield's Silky Hair & Sunday Update

{Since Grandma Bloomfield lives right next door, we get to see her a lot more often-which is completely awesome! Tate enjoys feeling her hair. He always tells her that it feels just like SILK. I know that I'm cheating... I took this picture tonight-Monday night, not Sunday.}

Bryan and I got a calling (about a month ago) to teach in the Primary (ages 6 & 7) in our new ward. We are really enjoying being team teachers. My very favorite part about being in the Primary again is watching Tate in Sharing Time/Singing Time. I like that he isn't in our class, but I get to watch him sing and listen to all of the funny things he says in Primary. I'm realizing that NOTHING is a secret in our family any more. Tate makes sure and tells EVERYONE (the entire primary) when we forget to read family scriptures, etc. Oops...
Here's a cute little recording of Tate singing and trying to do the sign language that he is learned in Singing Time. He's singing the song called I'll Seek The Lord Early.

Day 186-Bryan is Officially 30

Bryan had a birthday over the weekend (on the 4th of July). He turned 30 years old-crazy huh? We didn't do much-we went to Red Robin for lunch and then had a simple little family party with cake and presents (and we went to see some fireworks), but it was fun and out of the ordinary for us. For as many years back as I can remember we've always done a HUGE swim party with LOTS of family... So it was kind of nice to do something small this year (at least for me).

Day 185-Stubborn Boys Get Their Hair Buzzed Off!

I have been having the most DIFFICULT time with Tate and his insistence on doing his OWN hair. This is how he has been doing it:
  1. Wets his hair in the sink
  2. Slicks it down with a comb as much as possible
  3. Parts in on the side opposite of his cowlick
  4. Gives himself bangs that go straight down
  5. Comes to me so excited that he did his own hair
(The picture above was taken when his hair was almost dried-so it didn't look that bad. You can imagine how it looked when it was all slicked down).
Thursday when Tate did his hair like this AGAIN, I decided that the best thing to do would be to BUZZ his hair off. Trust me, it looks much better!

Day 184-Whole Wheat Blender Pancakes

These pancakes will fool you. Yes, they are made out of 100% WHOLE WHEAT, but they are just as light as can be and GOOD-really good!!! You can get the recipe (that I posted a while ago) HERE.
*Something awesome about this recipe is that you don't have to have a wheat grinder to make them. All you need is a good working blender, and you just stick the kernels in whole...

Day 183-The Question Jar

I'd say that today was just a NORMAL day in our household. Normal as in Tate asking a bazillion questions ALL day long! Since he asks such interesting questions (full of character and cuteness) I decided to start filling a jar with all of them. I've been doing this for close to a year now (the jar is nearly FULL) and it's been so much fun going back and reading them all.
Some examples are:
  • "What happens to the writing on an etch-a-sketch when you erase it?"
  • "Is a mushroom fungus? Did someone grow it on their feet and pick it off?"
  • Bryan was saying "Super-Cali-Fragil-Istic-Expi-Ali-Docious". Tate asked, "What does that mean in Spanish?"
I'm so glad that I've written Tate's questions down because (with my memory), I'm sure I would have only remembered one or two, and in my opinion... they are just too cute to be forgotten.
